ART PAPERS 32.06 - Nov/Dec 2008

This issue concerns itself with the drastic shift in contemporary art. What is over and what is next? New terms and expressions have gained currency and captured the artworld's imagination. At stake, now, is the opening up of spaces of possibility - wherever they might be found. The operative concept is the notion of maneuver. This idea traverses all the articles in this issue and many of the works reviewed.

Essays include Brett M. Levine's who introduces the work of Birmingham artist Walton Creel. In his discussion of Yael Bartana's stunning video installation Summer Camp, Noah Simblist demonstrates that land and labor are the ideological pillars of two seemingly, often violently, opposed utopias-Zionism and Palestinian nationalism. Anja Bock considers the ubiquity of Olafur Eliasson's work and his paradoxical reliance on experience and absorption and Berin Golonu explores their the artists' revolution of sub/urban gardening.
