ART PAPERS 03.03 - May/June 1979 - SOLD OUT

The Atlanta Art Workers Coalition Newspaper, Vol. 3 No. 3, opens with an interview with artist Alan Sonfist by Laura Liberman, Stan Sharshal and Dan R. Talley. At the time, Sonfist was gearing up for a project called Earth Wall at the High Museum in Atlanta. The project incorporated a glass enclosure of layered earth, and was set to face the MARTA station so it would be visible to ongoing traffic. Sonfist did not consider himself an architect or city planner dealing with finances or cliches, but an artist/visionary who had set his sights on a greater urban connection with the earth, more green space in cities. 

"Creative Collaboration: The Italian Invasion of Atlanta" by Laura Lieberman provides an interesting analysis of the Pistoletto family's artistic collaborations in Atlanta at the invitation of Mayor Maynard Jackson. Amid other events, and a report on avant garde music sources, most of the paper is taken by a discussion of "Regionalism," an exhibition curated by John McWilliams for the 1979 Atlanta Arts Festival.
