ART PAPERS 02.06 - Nov/Dec 1978 - SOLD OUT

Issue 4, 1978 examines what it means to be an artist in Atlanta, living somewhat off your work and living entirely for your work. An artist-to-artist interview between sculptors Scott Gilliam and David Heany highlights working "as if you're a pianist who knows your instrument so well that what you're doing is no longer about struggling with that medium," but struggling with the world outside of it. The sculptors also discuss the occasional futility of being an artist in Atlanta. While they mention the difficulty of receiving funds as an artist working in less material mediums (dancing, videography, music), Gayla Jamison's "A History of Funding: Image" provides a thorough check-in with available funds, organizations, and other resources. 

The paper advertises two shows at Georgia State, and also expands its horizons with "Women's Performance Art in Southern California: A Slide/Survey." A column by Gary Sipe, "The World of Artists' Books," gives a report on the  recent proliferation and distribution of artists' books from Printed Matter in New York and Nexus Printing in Atlanta.
